google doesn't provide official google drive client so how to proceed?

For me and it a problem that Google has no client for Google drive on Linux.

Firstly I have tried insync. Company offers licence for 15 dollars for one Google account. But before buy you can try 15 days trial. The software is cool, at least so good as official windows Google drive client. But my trial ended so I had looked for some free solution.

I have found Grive. It is command line tool. You can sync with
"grive -a"
command. In console there will be outputted url, you have to open it, allow permissions to grive app in your Google account. On next step you will receive long token. That token you have to use back in command line and syncing process will start.I dislike that sync is not done automatically, use have to get token a put it back to grive to continue.

Opensuse 12.3 and Virtualbox 4.2.10 to run

I have installed recent Virtualbox 4.2.10 r84104. But I was not able to run Virtualbox, it has ended with alert box to run
sudo /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup

But this command showed something like

Stopping VirtualBox kernel modules done
Recompiling VirtualBox kernel modules failed
(Look at /var/log/vbox-install.log to find out what went wrong)

Problem was that tools for kernel modules compiling were missing.

In Yast Control Center ->  Softwate Management -> View -> pattern a have selected in Development branch:
  • Base Development
  • C/C++ Development
  • Linux Kernel Development
Than  sudo /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup ended with:

Stopping VirtualBox kernel modules done
Recompiling VirtualBox kernel modules done
Starting VirtualBox kernel modules done

Mysql GUI tools with LAMPP

When you run LAMPP in /opt this everything is coupled in one place. MySQL daemon puts the mysql socket file to following file:

/opt/lampp/var/mysql/mysql.sock

If you wanna run standard MySQL GUI tools like MySQL Administrator or MySQL Query Browser you should set up mentioned socket file in advanced details in connection manager. It will be work.

Xdebug for LAMPP 1.7.3a

I found good solution for include xdebug to LAMPP with compiling steps.
http://dev.digi-corp.com/2009/02/xdebug-install-with-xampp-on-ubuntu/
But better is just download as mentioned on
http://www.apachefriends.org/f/viewtopic.php?p=162080&sid=7311d338c7837dc2964f0d46bd44f978
From Komodo site

Localhost as a server on LAN with LAMPP solution

This works on Ubuntu 10.10 64bit with Lampp 1.7.3a installed in /opt/. If you want to be your localhost computer httpd server for LAN change ServerName in /opt/lampp/etc/httpd.conf. First check your IP on LAN with ifconfig. If DHCP gives you IP, then it possible to fix IP by MAC address.
ifconfig wlan0
gedit /opt/lampp/etc/httpd.conf
ServerName 192.168.0.168:80

Configure LAMP on Ubuntu 10.04 to send email via PHP mail function

edited 2010-11-08 former guide doesn't work for me more (changed to ubuntu 10.10 64b lampp  1.7.3a) but this helped me http://tombuntu.com/index.php/2008/10/21/sending-email-from-your-system-with-ssmtp/

---- OLD ----
Lampp comes like standalone package without need to reconfigure something. It runs out of box. But If your Ubuntu installation has no configured mail server, it is problem to send mails via PHP mail function. Here is quick solution how use Gmail SMTP server to send emails from localhost:

sudo apt-get install ssmtp

sudo gedit /etc/ssmtp/ssmtp.conf
edit variables hostname, FromLineOverride
hostname=smtp.gmail.com
FromLineOverride=YES

sudo gedit /opt/lampp/etc/php.ini
add or change following variables in php.ini
smtp_port = 465
sendmail_path =/usr/sbin/ssmtp -t

Restart lampp
sudo /opt/lampp/lampp restart

create php mail testing script like:

$additional_headers = 'From: michaeljackson@heaven.org' . "\r\n";
$res = mail('recipient@domain.com','test','test body', $additional_headers);
var_dump($res);
?>

$res should be TRUE after executing and check out your mail mailbox, there should be something like this:

Colorfull gnome terminal

Most popular distro Ubuntu in current version 10.04 comes with gnome terminal as default. But colors have gone. Gnome terminal uses colors for ls listing. But to less.
Edit your .bashrc

"gedit ~/.bashrc"

Allow force_color_prompt=yes, probably just remove opening #
"force_color_prompt=yes"

I altered the color schema as well. I like white on black background.
"Edit -> Profile settings -> Colors" - choose your desired built-in scheme or make your own

Ubuntu 9.04 jaunty, kernel 2.6.30 and Broadcomm wireless drivers

Oh long story ... I upgraded ubuntu jaunty to kernel 2.6.30 because I had troubles with freezing my Intel GMA 945 internal graphics. Fine and everything went OK. But...

My wireless network was gone.

Here is solution:
* On http://www.broadcom.com/support/802.11/linux_sta.php download driver (32, 64b according to your pc)
* carefully read http://www.broadcom.com/docs/linux_sta/README.txt
* do step included in this readme

Wait, wait, wait - about 20 seconds, and my wicd recognized many wireless networks including mine :)

For autoloading of this module you need:
*
sudo mkdir /lib/modules/2.6.30-xxx/broadcomm-wlan/

*
sudo mv wl.ko /lib/modules/2.6.30-xxx/broadcomm-wlan/

* refresh modules
sudo /sbin/depmod -ae

*
sudo gedit /etc/modules

* add new line with "wl"

My microSD card 3 in 1

In this time flash-type exchangeable memories we can find mostly in cameras, camcoders, cell phones, PDAs alebo like a USB memory stick. I decides to buy my microSD because I had no memory for my cell phone Nokia 6233 in a package. And this is no regular microSD but 3 in 1 card.

It seems my microSD is related with Nescafe a this card is entry product of foodstuffs company into hardware business :) But not really. The producer of my card is A-Data. I decided for 2GB version, by the way it was almost equal capacity as of my first hardisk of my first PC anno domini 1997 :) I would appreciate kind of universal solutions - to use all of the capacity as much as possible not only in cell phone.

microSD Card id ready to use like:

1. regular microSD
2. SD card
3. USB stickIn the first case is a use of my microSD card like a memory for my cell phone. 2GB are too much for this kind of device, and for nomral use is for me about 1/10 enough. I stored only 7 java games and a few pictures from camera when I forgot to take my compact camera.

Cell phone is my MP3 player as well. And like a mp3 memory is much more used. The half of capacity took mp3 songs :) Today I saved there 15 albums. This stuff are my current favorite songs which I now listen and enjoy.

The secord role like and regular SD card I don't use usuelly. I don't have camera with SD card slot, but Compact Flash, by the way A-Data as well. In the begining I tried this functionality on my previous mp3 player Sunsway, which has a SD card hole :)

The most frequest use of microSD is like classic USB stick. At work I switch card from cell phone to USB adapter, I start Winamp and play songs form card. And actually I save, move all kind of rest datas. Since I have this card I don't use my old 256MB flash stick SANDISK. But in inicial testing I found out copying to A-data card is not so quick like to SANDISK. In USB form I use this card in car audio system, which plays mp3 from usb accesories.

The advantage of this card is central archive if files, datas, multimedia files. All documents you are working in recent time, all music, all photos you have together on one place. And everything is easy to get by USB port, card reader or via bluetoth in cell phone. I resume I would notice:

Advanatges:
  • up-to-date datas in one place
  • saving on medias like CD, DVD for burning
  • 3 in 1 functionality
  • micro size
DisAdvanatges:
  • slower copying to card
  • doesn't exist adapter to use card like xD card, Memory Stick etc.
  • switching to / from adapters
  • micro size - missed card is very hard to find
